Life is harsh, but we are living with it no matter what.

We learn the lesson, and head forward.

Creativity

Creativity

Traditionally, creativity is more considered in the art design and music composition. Although it is not easy to find the research about creativity in the educational field, in fact, creativity is the one of main considerations in the multimedia project.

What is creativity? Sternberg and Lubert (1995) proposed that novelty must be coupled with appropriateness for something to be considered creative. Although creativity can be seen in the products, it can also be considered in terms of the process. Weisberg (1986) proposes that creativity can be defined by the novel use of tools to solve problems or novel problem solving. From this point of view, our multimedia project involved creativity not only during the design process and also the applications which were used to apply for the content.

The most famous creativity model is Graham Wallas’ model. Wallas (1926) proposed that creativity involves four consecutive stages: preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification.
1. Preparation. The person expecting to gain new insights must know his field of study and be well prepared. This fits what we have experienced that people get ingenious ideas mainly in their own fields - poets in poetry; scientists, in science. In the preparation stage we define the problem, need, or desire, and gather any information the solution or response needs to account for, and set up criteria for verifying the solution's acceptability.

2. Incubation - Wallas noticed many great ideas came only a period of time spent away from the problem. Many ideas come to us when we are away from the problem, usually after actively engaging with the problem. This could be explained in Weisberg (1986) that the creativity was thought to stem from unconscious thought processes. In the incubation stage, we step back from the problem and let our minds contemplate and work it through. Like preparation, incubation can last minutes, weeks, even years.

3. Illumination. It's a mysterious phase. Resting the mind by doing other activities was the only suggestion Wallas could offer about how creative ideas form., like a “click” or “flash.” In the illumination stage, ideas arise from the mind to provide the basis of a creative response. These ideas can be pieces of the whole or the whole itself, i.e. seeing the entire concept or entity all at once. Unlike the other stages, illumination is often very brief, involving a tremendous rush of insights within a few minutes or hours.

4. Verification. In this final step, efforts are made to see if the "happy idea" actually solves the problem. Since "great" ideas don't always work out in actual situation, this final step is vitally important to the success of any project. In verification, the final stage, one carries out activities to demonstrate whether or not what emerged in illumination satisfies the need and the criteria defined in the preparation stage. From this point of view, Gabora (2002) pointed out that creativity transforms and evolves a collection of old ideas into new ones rather than just unconscious procedures, which might imply that the creativity could be trained.

Moreover, Poon Teng Fatt's (2000) emphasizes the gathering of ideas in groups and the fostering for the free flow of ideas. By encouraging group discussion, brainwave will be encouraged along with the sharing of ideas and experiences.

Our traditional creative thinking only focuses on the brainstorming stage, however, the creative process involves purposeful analysis, imaginative idea generation, and critical evaluation – the total creative process is a balance of imagination and analysis (Plsek, 1996).

In Appreciation of Professor multimedia project, the design group create a unique multimedia project by considering the culture, community and historical perspectives. The ability of the creativity could be analyzed from the content, the design procedures and the final product, which could be integrated into the other projects in the multimedia learning and teaching environment.

farmer girl

One of my friends told me that her dutch colleague asked her if I am a dutch because "boer" stands for "farmer" in dutch, and lots of dutch ppl have last name as boer. Wow, I wish so. This reminds me of one famous poet and his poetry "采菊东篱下,悠然见南山." What a luxury dream!

It's been several months not to write anything serious here. Writing in English is still challenging for me although sometimes I had an urge to say. What a pity!

What Gender Is Your Brain

Your Brain is 67% Female, 33% Male

Your brain leans female
You think with your heart, not your head
Sweet and considerate, you are a giver
But you're tough enough not to let anyone take advantage of you!

This is not about me. ...Is this about me? ...hmm, nah, hmm, yeah? ...no

bad memory

The advantage of a bad memory is that one enjoys several times the same good things for the first time.--Friedrich Nietzsche

Reading this from Google, I think of Jack who said her memeory sucks once. Now I'm wondering whether it is the reason to be positive and happy too.

The worse thing for myself is, I remember those that should be forgotten, and forget those that should be remembered. Don't blame me, please. I would blame those biologists who couldn't help the person like me, or I should blame the one who claimed to create the world?

Oh well, I'm just watering.

if you don't kill yourself, you deserve to pass

When Chan told me about this today, I took a tumble. For a long time being blundering, I almost quit the thing I should finish. Oh yeah, I should but I have not. Nothing comes as what I want, full of challenge. You see, I took those frustration as challenge, for being positive and persisting. hmm, that is what I want to be.

It is okay that nothing is right, since nothing had ever been right. Life is tough, but I'd better live with it.

What Kind of Soul Are You?

You Are a Dreaming Soul

Your vivid emotions and imagination takes you away from this world
So much so that you tend to live in your head most of the time
You have great dreams and ambitions that could be the envy of all...
But for you, following through with your dreams is a bit difficult

You are charming, endearing, and people tend to love you.
Forgiving and tolerant, you see the world through rose colored glasses.
Underneath it all, you have a ton of passion that you hide from others.
Always hopeful, you tend to expect positive outcomes in your life.

Souls you are most compatible with: Newborn Soul, Prophet Soul, and Traveler Soul

Donde voy

DONDE VOY

All alone I have started my journey
to the darkness of darkness I go
with a reason I stopped for a moment
In this world full of pleasure So frail

town after town on I travel
pass through faces I know when know not
like a bird in flight sometimes I topple
time and time again Just farewells

Donde voy donde voy
day by day my story unfolds
Solo estoy Solo estoy
all alone as the day I was born

till your eyes rest in mine I shall wander
no more darkness I know when know not
for your sweetness I traded my freedom
not knowing a farewell awaits

you know hearts can be repeatedly broken
making room for the harrows to come
along with my sorrows i buried
my tears,my smiles,your name

donde voy donde voy
songs of lovetales I sing of no more
solo estoy solo estoy
once again with my shadows I roam

donde voy donde voy
all alone as the day I was born
solo estoy solo estoy
still alone with my shadows I roam

A torch song by CHYI, a very famous singer from Taiwan. Jack posted it on her blog but I couldn't trackback, so I posted here again. Thanks Jack

wise up

by Aimee Mann

It's not
What you thought
When you first began it
You got
What you want
Now you can hardly stand it though,
By now you know
It's not going to stop*
'Til you wise up

You're sure
There's a cure
And you have finally found it
You think
One drink
Will shrink you 'til you're underground
And living down
But it's not going to stop*
'Til you wise up

Prepare a list of what you need
Before you sign away the deed
'Cause it's not going to stop*
'Til you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
'Til you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
So just
...

give up

don't worry, be happy

Mars told me not to cry when she is leaving, otherwise we would not see each other. I wanted to ask whether this is from her culture, and I knew she is very superstitious one, but I did not. To see off the friends is the thing I learn to handle and always handle well like this morning...

At this early time, putting the cd we made for her to the player, I could not fall in sleep again. The room is pervaded by Elaine's voice, "When you’re down and troubled / And you need a helping hand / And nothing, whoa nothing is going right./ Close your eyes and think of me /And soon I will be there / To brighten up even your darkest nights..." I saw her crying when she said "Be happy," I said "Safe driving," smiling...

My first best friend in the States is on the way to her new life at this moment...:)

behave myself

Diane's leaving is just like the one bomb after another.

Meanwhile, I must behave myself. Don't be a naughty one any more. I'm talking about the behavior when reading other's blog. Believe me, I didn't do anything bad, but I guess I'm a liitle bit annoying since I talked more than I used to. I was lost in that way to some extent.

All good things must come to an end

It is the same day as when you were out, I told myself that you would be back very soon. Sitting there, I buried myself into the paper because I knew you would come to drag me out. But, nobody came to bug me for a cup of coffee "hey, I would get a cup of coffee downstaris, do you want one?" nobody came to drag me to the union for the lunch, nobody came to ask me "hey, what are you doing?"

It is the same day as when your door was closed, I told myself that the door would be open very soon. Looking at my door, I saw those signs and pictures that hung on your door before. I promised "no whine any time," "stop hate," "to be pround of bilingual..." but only a smile left on your door, which is closed the whole day.

Had four quarters in my pocket, I only need one cup of coffee. In the front of the machine, I finally remembered what you chose all the time was. I had the same one you had before, lots of cream. After heating my lunch, I took it to your office but realized that you were not there today, I finiished it in the break room by myself. Someone said "the smell is good" but it was not you. Quiet, quiet all the time, I kept forgetting you were not there today, and since then.

I had to wrap up my stuff and rushed to the shuttle, nobody said to me"hey, I gave you a ride." I kept walking, smiling to the people in the elevator as you did the other day, I kept walking, jumping to the other's right side that is your good ear side when we were talking. I kept walking, but I couldn't see through the people when tears came to my eyes. Something is missing in such a beautiful day, I asked myself what it is. I haven't heard your laugh, haven't heard your saying "such a brat," and haven't seen you for a whole day, a day when the everything would be different since then.

They said that all good things must come to an end. I say that I am lucky to have a friend like you.

science redefinition

Our school faculty asked school district not to follow the new state standards about the redefinition of the science. The science standards passed on Nov. 8, 2005, changed the definition of science to allow non-natural (including super-natural) explanations of natural phenomena. The main scientific theory targeted by these standears is Darwinian evolusion. According to Dr. S, some people believe that because Darwinian evolution couldn't explain a lots of things, there must be some super power in the control, which leads to the creationism. Intelligent Design is the term that has been used in the debate. People who support ID try not to specify who the designer is because eveyone knows the answer, and because they don't want to cause the critiques direct to the christians.

Dr. S said "I'm the christian, I believe what I believe, but I'm also a scienctist... It's a very powerful and useful way of knowing that uses natural explannations to explain natural phenomenon." On his desk, there is a report regarding the issue which he said "this is very complicated." The case happended last year in Philadelphia brought my attention to this issue.

Where will this debate lead the American Education to? How do the educators handle the issue like this? What will the students be? What are the consequences?...All these questions are required to be answered.

procrastination

The reason to cause the procrastination is perfectionism, fear and disorganization.

Perfectionism is easy to understand. Believing that we must do something perfectly is a recipe for stress, and we'll associate that stress with the task and thus condition ourself to avoid it. We then end up putting the task off to the last possible minute. But if we have no specific deadline for a task, perfectionism can cause us to delay indefinitely.

Fear of failing. if we are self-critical and feel inferior, we will avoid doing many things, especially competitive activities. Not trying is a form of failure but not as painful as actually trying and failing.

Disorganization is another reason to cause the procrastination. We might have a huge goal in our mind, but forgot to break down to the doable part. If we have to handle the multiple tasks at the same time, it's definitely getting worse.

There're lots of recommendation to help stop the procrastionation. But I found one by John Perry might work well. Actually he's quite funny guy. He pointed out "that procrastinating does not mean doing absolutely nothing, they do marginally useful things." Just like now I'm writing my blog which is marginally useful thing comparing to my dissertation. :) In his structured procrastination strategy
Structured procrastination means shaping the structure of the tasks one has to do in a way that exploits this fact. The list of tasks one has in mind will be ordered by importance. Tasks that seem most urgent and important are on top. But there are also worthwhile tasks to perform lower down on the list. Doing these tasks becomes a way of not doing the things higher up on the list. With this sort of appropriate task structure, the procrastinator becomes a useful citizen. Indeed, the procrastinator can even acquire, as I have, a reputation for getting a lot done.
So for me, right now, I should change my dissertation from the top 1 to the top3 or lower that I can avoid to do my top1 task by working on it, and finally get it done. What's a marvellous idea!

I'm Ms. Procrastinator.

Boring

Debra got some fear that she was a boring wife for Ray at home, in order to cheer him up, she proposed a weekend vacation just for both of them. They took a trip to the ice cream factory after Ray rejected several plans. Ray didn't want to go at all, but he thought it's for Debra. Debra thought he liked it. They saw one couple in the hotel, happily. Ray bet they hadn't been married yet...Without doubt, fight was coming, and poor Debra cried in the bathroom. When Ray realized Debra's worries, he said "I'm the boring one." At least, they have one thing in common now.

Life is boring most of time, which people live in. I'm the one who always worries about "i'm the boring one." oh yeah, not just thinking, I AM!

Indeed, life is more like water, yeah, the water we drink everyday, not sweet, not salty. It's plain! Sometimes I had juice, coke, sometimes I drink wine, But none of them I can drink everyday except for water. Routin life is such a big challenge for everyone, isn't it?

love the new and loathe the old

Men like that, so do I (sometimes). Changing layout is just because I couldn't type long during these days, but want to see something new.

I haven't got used to my new appearance here yet, which might take some time for such a stubborn person like me. how do u feel? This makes me thinking of my classmates long time ago. After they knew me as my real name, I tried once to introduce myself with my English name. Nobody took it as me. First impression lasts forever. One of my friends said ur name is so wavy, man, it's like talking about my mood, no wonder. what a name my parents gave to me!

Got to stop here, gee, it hurts.
